when characters get launched on gigantic story arcs with almost no motivation, or a decided lack of reasonable doubt in someone who was - in just the previous scene - lying to them, it pulls you out of the movie. it stops you from being in the movie until you can convince yourself to get over it. you can't buy how a character would do all that just because someone you never met offered you something that you actually know is impossible but you really want to believe might be true. and then the rest of the movie gets structured about very strict laws and rules, but you already just broke the biggest one by throwing us into a situation we already can't believe. quite a ride nonetheless.
'Musical genres are always heavily codified and rap seems to be one of the most extreme ones, each video has similar if not identical subjects, the same light, the same cars, the same girls, the same dance moves etc. Through their likeness they seem to be almost ‘classic’, just as classic theater or opera.'
